Obituary of Jeremiah A. Foley, Jr.
JEREMIAH A. FOLEY JR.
SCHENECTADY - Jeremiah Aloysius Foley, Jr (aka "Jeff") passed away on November 16th, 2023.
Jeff lived at the Kingsway Manor, an assisted living center, in Schenectady, NY. Staff there were a tremendous help to him when his wife Marilyn needed more care. He shared stories with his family about how kind staff were and how much he appreciated all that they did for him and Marilyn. His family will be forever grateful.
He raised four children (Susan, Paul, Brian (Fran), and Keith) with Marilyn nee Hughes Foley who passed away January 2018. He was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts in 1936 to the late Jeremiah A Foley and Virginia nee Hammond Foley. Jeff met Marilyn on Cape Cod while he was home from the Army with a broken ankle. "The minute I met Marilyn, that was it for me." Jeff was the oldest of seven with six sisters (Maureen Hunter, Judith "Judy" Chapman, Virginia "Ginny Lou" Rogers, Cecilia Robinson, Caroline Foley, and Paula Woodhull) and an honorary sister/cousin Caroline Murphy. He spent a lot of time laughing on the phone with his favorite granddaughter Catelin Lombardo Foley.
Jeff graduated from UMass Amherst in 1958 with a Bachelor's of Science in civil engineering and had a long career as a structural engineer at the New York State Office of General Services. His tenure on high school and college debate teams gave him the skills to discuss a wide range of social and political issues with his daughter, Susan son Keith, daughter in law Fran and his sisters. After graduation, he served in the United States Army, discharged honorably in 1961. He and Marilyn married in 1962 settling in Albany and then Latham, NY.
Jeff was a longtime Red Sox fan attending games with his father when he was five years old while his uncles were umpires. It was quite the day when the Sox won the World Series in 2004. While at UMass Amherst, he was a pitcher for the baseball team and played basketball. The Celtics were his favorite basketball team. He was an even bigger NY Giants fan through the ups and downs of their achievements. He loved to watch games with his sons who brought him chicken wings (Brian) and veggie pizza (Keith) and who figured out how to watch the games through various internet accounts (Paul).
As you think of Jeff, please consider rooting for the NY Giants. They can use all the help they can get. As always, Go Sox!
