JAMES D. THERO
Latham- James D. Thero, 85 of Latham, beloved husband of Elizabeth A. (Schnurr) Thero, passed away peacefully on November 7th, 2023 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
Born in Troy on November 13th 1937, James was the son of the late John J. and Mary (Kelly) Thero. He was a 1955 graduate of La Salle Institute in Troy and attended Siena College in Loudonville. James married Elizabeth A. Schnurr on June 7th 1964 at the St. Margaret Mary Church in Albany. The two had cherished 60 years of marriage prior to his passing.
James had a forty-year career with the U.S. Postal Service. He began as a letter carrier in Latham and was later promoted to Superintendent of Mails. He then served as Postmaster of Latham, beginning in 1971. Jim then moved to the main post office on Karner Road in Colonie as Director of Customer Service. His final position was as Senior Plant Manager for the U.S Postal Service in Albany, also supervising the mail processing centers in Utica, Syracuse, and Binghamton. He retired in 2000. James was an avid golfer, was a former member of the Colonie Elks Lodge #2192, as well as former president of the Latham Rotary.
In addition to his wife, survivors of James include his son, Daniel P. Thero of Latham and his brother, John J. (late Margaret) Thero Jr. of Ormon Beach, FL.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday, November 12th, 2023 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham.
James' Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 13th, 2023, 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-shaker Road, Latham with Rev. Geoffrey Burke, celebrant.
Interment and Rite of Committal will immediately follow the mass at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to either the American Heart Association at www.heart.org or the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
