THOMAS J. GALLAGHER JR.
Loudonville- Brigadier General Thomas J. Gallagher Jr., 74, of Loudonville passed away peacefully on Thursday April 29 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's in Albany.
Born in Albany on October 13, 1935, he was the son of the late Thomas and Marion (Hannig) Gallagher Sr. Tom was a 1954 graduate of CBA, he then furthered his studies at HVCC, receiving an Associate in Science Degree and subsequently a Bachelor's Degree from Excelsior College. He married the former Mary C. Maguire on October 20, 1956 and the two have shared a blessed union of almost 54 years together. He served in the Army National Guard.
He began his employment with the NYS Division of Military & Naval Affairs in Latham in 1958 as an Engineering Technician eventually working his way up to the position of Deputy Adjuntant General. A position he retired from after many years of service.
Tom was a Past member of the Board of Trustees for the NYS Military Heritage Museum, as well as the Association of the US Army Capital District Chapter. He also was Past 1st Vice President for the National Guard & Naval Militia Relief Society of NY.
He is survived by his beloved wife: Mary, his loving children; Thomas (Dawn) J. Gallagher III of Latham, Mary (Frank) Willey of Waterford, William (Amy) Gallagher of Milford, CT & John (Barbara) Gallagher of Loudonville; 7 cherished grandchildren: Justin (Erica Erskine), Kyle and his fiance Jenna Mellon, Lauren, Brian, Bronson, Sheldon & Carson. As well as his sister Mary Cole of Albany.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday May 4 at 12:30 p.m. at Memory's Garden, 983 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Tom's honor to the NYS Military Heritage Institute, 61 Lake Ave, Saratoga Springs NY 12866
