Obituary of Dong Nack Kim
DONG NACK KIM
Dong Nack Kim died peacefully at his home at Shaker Pointe in Watervliet, NY, on July 25, 2023.
He was born on October 15, 1931, in Chung Do, South Korea. He enlisted in the Korean army at 18 at the start of the Korean War and served in the artillery division. He earned his MD from Kyung Pook University, in Daegu, South Korea, where he also met his wife of 63 years, Kae Ryun Kim. He moved to the US to earn a PhD in Pathology from Albany Medical College in Albany, NY, and his family settled in Loudonville. He eventually became a Professor of Pathology at Albany Med, where he taught and conducted research until his retirement. During their years in the Capital District, Dong Nack attended the Korean Presbyterian Church of Albany, where he served as an Elder. Shortly after they retired, Dong Nack and Kae moved to The Villages, FL, where they spent many years enjoying golfing and gardening and were active members of the Ocala Korean Presbyterian Church. They returned to the Northeast to spend their final years closer to family.
In addition to his wife, Dong Nack is survived by his daughters YungHee Risler and Maggie Kim (husband Brad Stull); his grandchildren Hannah Schewe (husband Michael Schewe), Emma Risler (husband John Catapano), Lilli Risler, Fayth Risler, Elias Stull Kim, and Sophia Stull Kim; and his great grandchildren Jane and Claire Schewe. He will be deeply missed by his family.
Interment will take place at the Albany Rural Cemetery on August 12th, 2023 at 10:00 am,(meeting at 9:45 AM at the South Entrance off of Route 378 also known as the intersection of Menands Rd. and Van Rensselaer Blvd.) and will be followed by a memorial reception for family and friends at Shaker Pointe at Carondelet (1 Bell Tower Dr, Watervliet) from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.
Arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the care of the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Latham.
