Obituary of Jean Anna Degen

JEAN ANNA DEGEN

Latham - Jean Anna Degen, 92 of Latham, wife of the late Edward E. Degen, passed away on January 26th, 2023 at Peregrine Senior Living at Shaker in Albany.

Born in Troy on November 15, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John and Julia (Smith) DelSanto. She was a graduate of Latham Elementary School and the Academy of Holy Names in 1947. She lived in Green Island for 33 years before moving back to Latham in 1987.

Jean worked as a Commercial Sales Associate in the Large Business Sales Dept. with New York Telephone, later Verizon, for 32 years, retiring in 1997. She held an office in the St. Joseph's Mothers Club and was active in the Rosary Society while in Green Island. Jean was an avid reader, was happiest when she was cooking for her family, and was an artist who enjoyed oil painting and watercolor. She jokingly referred to herself as a "domestic engineer" at home.

She is survived by her children Edward (the late Ann Marie) Degen, John (Terry) Degen, Paul Degen and Anne (Leo) Sadlemire, her four grandchildren Jason Sadlemire, Matthew Sadlemire, Catherine Degen and Thomas Degen, great-granddaughter Amelia Sadlemire, as well as her sister Linda Saleh and sisters-in-law Shirley DelSanto and Jean DelSanto.

Jean is predeceased by her brothers Peter and John DelSanto.

In keeping with Jean's wishes there will be no visitation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend Jean's funeral mass which will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 1st, 2023, 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Angels Chapel at Siena College. Interment will immediately follow the mass and take place alongside her husband, Edward, in St. Joseph's Cemetery of Cohoes in Waterford.
