Obituary of Margaret E. Grieco
MARGARET E. GRIECO
WATERVLIET- Margaret E. Grieco, 98 of Watervliet, beloved wife of the late Robert R. Grieco, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2022 at Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Albany.
Born February 4th, 1924 in Troy, Margaret was the daughter of the late Clarence R. and Frances M. (Pike) Groff. Margaret married Robert R. Grieco and shared many blessed years together before his passing on October 27th 1965.
Margaret worked as a waitress for many years, first employed by Howard Johnson’s and later by The Century House in Latham.
Hard work and family defined Margaret’s (Marge’s) life. Her first husband, Frances Kruegler died at an early age, leaving her with a young family to raise. Through her strength of character and with family support she raised four children whom she loved dearly.
Over the course of her 98 years Marge was a waitress, hotel keeper, restaurant owner, dry cleaner, housekeeper and finally grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother! She also became “Grandma Marge” to countless children of friends and extended family. She was famous for showing up (early!) at many family events with her car packed with cakes, cookies, potato salad etc. Marge often remarked that her solitary life in recent years was filled with craft projects, from quilting, to crocheting and baking. She took pride in donating hundreds of handmade hats for babies and children at Albany Medical Center.
Margaret is survived by her three children Diane M. Conlin (partner Francis Middelaer) of Ravena, Gerald F. (Gail) Kruegler of Clifton Park, and Dennis M. (late Nancy) Kruegler of Florida. Also survived by her sisters Ruth Davila of Schaghticoke, and Marion (John) Nickarz of Syracuse. She also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren: Beth (Charles) Tailleur, Amy Klugman, Curt (Teri-Gene) Conlin, Kelly (Scott) Hudson, Todd (Kerry) Kruegler, Morgan (Matt) Binder, Laura Kruegler, and Julie (Brian) Snyder as well as fifteen adored great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands Margaret is predeceased by her daughter Barbara J. Ernest as well as her brothers Earl (Victoria), Franklin and Clarence (Virginia) Groff and granddaughter Meegan N. Monroe. She is also predeceased by her companion and partner in many adventures in the Capital District, Lake George and Deerfield Beach FL over a 40+ year period, Marvin John Rea.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday, August 12, 2022 from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. A Celebration of Margaret’s Life and Prayer Service will begin at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy.
