MICHAEL F. SMITH
Michael Francis Smith, 79, a resident of Loudonville, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2022, with his loving daughter at his side.
Born in Albany, NY on December 4, 1942, he was the son of Arthur & Margaret (nee Garfield) Smith. On February, 29, 1964, he began a devoted, 53 year marriage with Lynn Ott, until her passing in 2017. For years, they truly enjoyed the time they spent together exhibiting their hobbies at many craft fairs across New York State.
Michael graduated from Christian Brothers Academy where he was a First Team Times Union All-Albany Basketball selection. He attended the University of Albany where he earned a Bachelors and Master's degree in Accounting and later taught evening classes at Siena College for the American Institute of Banking. While there, Michael became a huge fan of Siena basketball and enjoyed attending games on campus and at the Times Union Center. He retired from Pioneer Savings Bank in Troy NY, in 2003, after working many years as an auditor.
As a retired volunteer for the Colonie Senior Services, Michael heard a presentation about the Northeastern Association of the Blind in Albany (NABA) low vision services. An outgoing senior with a big heart, Michael had been losing his vision for nearly a decade and sincerely appreciated the support NABA provided in meeting the challenges of everyday life.
Michael is survived by his companion Eleanor Pers, daughter Meghan Baltich and her husband Matt and granddaughter Katherine Baltich. He is also survived by brothers Henry Smith (Caroline), David Smith (Alicia) and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Arthur Smith (Joanne).
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Michael's Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 20th, 2022, 11:30 am at St. Pius X Church located at 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville. Private interment beside his wife will take place at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Michael to the Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany, 301 Washington Ave. Albany NY 12206.
