MARY TERESA KENNY
Latham-Mary Teresa Kenny, 96, of Latham, died peacefully on Dec. 2, 2021 at the Eddy Village Green.
Born in Troy on September 30, 1925, she was the youngest daughter of the late Joseph Johnson and Helen Meaney Johnson. Raised and educated in Troy, she was a graduate of Saint Peter's School and Catholic Central High School, class of 1943. Mary Teresa was employed by the NYS Department of Civil Service and there met the love of her life, Martin J. Kenny Sr. They were married on April 15, 1950. After 62 years of a wonderful marriage, Marty predeceased her in 2012. Mom enjoyed writing poetry. Her best composition was her life: the perfect rhyming of all things family and friends. Mary Teresa was a generous volunteer for many years, culminating at age 80 with her service at the Sisters of Saint Joseph Provincial House in Latham. She received an award of recognition from the Diocese of Albany for her dedication there. She was an original member of the Nine of Hearts bridge club of Port Schuyler, enjoying her time with that wonderful group for over 40 years.
Mary Teresa was a loving mother to her five children: Patricia (William) Jakabek of Coventry, RI; Mary Lou (Dennis) O'Connor of Hammondsport, NY; Martin Jr. (Kathrin) Kenny of Ontario, NY; Susanne (Robert) Burke of Latham and Michael (Paula) Kenny of Boght Corners. She was a proud grandmother to her 13 grandchildren: Eileen, Patrick, Colleen, Brendan, Michael, Timothy, Matthew, Joseph, Molly, Erin, Colin, Robert and Abby Rose, and seven great-grandchildren: William, Kieran, Charlotte, Ronan, Eve, Thomas and Liam. She was predeceased by her sisters Helen Grimm and Kay Carson. Mary Teresa was a much beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Eddy Village and the Marjorie Doyle Rockwell Center for their excellent care and loving attention over the past nine years.
