WILLIAM E. VANVEGHTEN
TROY- William E. VanVeghten, 80, of Troy, beloved husband of the late Rita M. (Adash) VanVeghten, passed away Monday, September 20, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Troy, NY on February 25, 1941, he was the son of the late Irving and Ruth (Grogan) VanVeghten.
William graduated from Mechanicville High School class of 1959 and then went on to earn his Machine Tool Operator Degree from Hudson Valley Community College in 1970.
William worked for the former Marshall Ray Company of Troy as a delivery man, as well as working maintenance. While working here he met his beloved wife Rita, and they shared a beautiful marriage for 41 years. William then went on to work for General Electric in Schenectady as a machinist assembling and inspecting small motors and turbines until his retirement in 1995. During his time working for both Marshall Ray and GE, William would continue to work and help run his family dairy farm in Melrose.
William was loved by all who knew him. He will always be remembered for being an avid Mets and Yankees fan, a talented accordion player, lover of both Polka and Country Western music, his gift of baking (especially apple pies), the care and enjoyment of tending to his pool, as well as for his sense of humor and ability to bring a smile to the faces of anyone he crossed paths with. Out of all of these sources of joy William possessed, the deepest and most loved was that of spending quality time with his family, especially his granddaughters who he adored, and was affectionately referred to as "Pa."
In addition to his wife and parents, William is predeceased by his siblings Irving, Beverly, and Diane.
Survivors include his children Lori DellaRocco (Rob Volpe) and Stephen VanVeghten (Debbie Mann), granddaughters Victoria and Stephanie DellaRocco, and Alexa and Macie VanVeghten, siblings Kenneth (Jean) and Lester (late Jean), as well as many nieces and nephews.
