Obituary of Edward J. Foster
EDWARD J. FOSTER
Green Island - Edward James Foster, 69, beloved husband of Maryjane "MJ" Kalvog Foster, died Friday, May 7, 2021 in South Carolina.
Born in Albany on April 5, 1952, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Gabrielle A. (Corbett) Foster. He was raised in Green Island and graduated from St. Joseph's School in Green Island and LaSalle Institute in Troy, Class of 1969.
Following in his father's footsteps, Ed was a firefighter for the Village of Green Island. He began as a callman and rose through the ranks to become Assistant Fire Chief. He was a founding member and the first President of the Green Island Professional Firefighters Association Local 3418. He retired in 2002 with over twenty years of service.
After his retirement, he took a transatlantic cruise where he met his future wife MJ. They shared a love for travel and were able to enjoy many wonderful trips together. Some of their favorite adventures included visiting the Great Wall of China and exploring Africa while traveling on Rovos Rail. Through their travels, Ed was able to expand on his love of photography and captured many amazing images which will be treasured by his family and friends.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his siblings Michael Foster, Richard Foster, Mary Foster, Joseph Foster, Nancy (Kenneth) Mautino, Jacqueline (Bruce O'Keefe) Foster, John (Lisa) Foster and Robert (Carmen Valente) Foster, his niece and nephews Richard (Julia) Mautino, Christopher Mautino, Nicole Mautino, John Foster and James Foster.
Ed was predeceased by his brother Ronald Foster.
Relatives and friends are invited to graveside services on Saturday June 5, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Spring Avenue Ext, Troy, NY.
There will be no public calling hours.
