To the entire Virtanen family,
Hearing of John’s passing brought me great sadness. He and I were college friends and we played lacrosse together for 3 years at Siena. He was always the warmest guy, kind to all. He loved to have fun and he was a big part in making that lacrosse team so enjoyable.
We lost touch after college, but I did run into him in 2005 and we had a moment to catch up. That gleam in his eye that made him so special, was still there.
Even though we weren’t in touch after college I always knew a bit about him because my wife and I were both TRS members. His immense contribution to that system has made our retirement so comfortable. We and thousands of others owe him a huge debt of gratitude.
To the whole family, my wife ( who also was really close to John in those wonderful days) and I send our heartfelt condolences. R I P John!
