One of the happiest people I ever knew - a genuinely nice guy - always smiling.

I am saddened by the news of Dan's passing. Dan and I grew up together in Elmira; attending school and playing Small Fry Football together. We both played the defensive line. I remember how excited we were to wear our new arm pads and wrap them in duct tape. We had each other's backs. It's what friends do. Our families knew each other and Margaret and Robert are good friends. Dan was truly a gentle giant who warmed the hearts of all those he interacted with. Godspeed my friend. You are always with us.

My deepest and my sincere sympathies to Dan’s wife, girls and his entire family. I graduated with Dan from Notre Dame and he was a very quiet but larger than life guy. He always had the time and took the time to talk . We would sit in study hall and laugh and I’d always get yelled at by the nun for talking but Not Dan.. he’d give me the eye like sorry Karyn. I’d say yeah she’s just scared Bc you’re so tall. Dan was one of the sweetest, most kind hearted guys I knew. Many prayers for you all and I am so very sorry for your loss. God Bless!

Big Dan: I’ll never forget how worried I was after your job interview when Lani mentioned that you play basketball and, if hired, would be interested in joining the Health Department players on Fridays after work. You immediately became the biggest (6’ 8” and husky), toughest (butt and elbows), and most enthusiastic player amongst a bunch of old guys. I have a scar above my left eye as a memory of your basketball prowess. May God bless your eternal soul and watch over your immediate family.

We love you Big Dan, now and forever. We are shocked and deeply saddened by your untimely passing. You have so many who love you and will always cherish your friendship. Such a sweetheart with a kind heart. Mark enjoyed working with you at the NYSDOH and banging bodies with you on the basketball court. You were so proud of your girls that you beamed when speaking of Heidi and the twins. They and we will all miss you for all of the love and sweetness in you that you shared with everyone lucky enough to call you family and/or friend.
