I'm just learning about this today at the chow hall here at Creech from another 18th squadron member. He and I flew many missions at the 18th Reconnaissance Squadron/Creech together ...he was Maj Provost then I was the Sensor Operator during the missions . He was a stellar dude in my eyes. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I went through B-1 training with Bernie in 2006-2007 and we lived together in Abilene, TX while we were going through training. He was one of my closest friends. We fished together often and I loved how he would crack jokes about the regular fishermen, he only did fly-fishing (and would never be caught using a rod and reel). He would spend his time trying to teach me the rather difficult techniques. He went to the 34th Bomb Squadron at Ellsworth shortly before me, and I requested to join this squadron, because I knew Bernie was going there. We did a deployment to the Middle East together in 2008 and flew together often. He was very well-liked and respected in the squadron. He had a great since of humor also. He made a very positive impression on everybody he encountered. After Bernie went to fly RPAs, we kinda fell out of touch, which I deeply regret. It was a great joy to know Bernie, and my wife and I are deeply devastated by this loss. We want to offer our sincere condolences for your loss. Please reach out if you ever need anything.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep,
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond’s gift of snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the autumn’s gentle rain,
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush.
Of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

I am truly grateful to have had the pleasure to work with Bernie for so many years. Our time in Las Vegas was sometimes filled with long, grueling hours but Bernie always managed to keep things light hearted and funny. He was a humble, fair leader, who never sought after personal gain. I know he will be missed by so many. I’d like to remember him as the kind, witty, fisherman that he was. My sincerest condolences go out to all his family and friends.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Bernie was truly a remarkable person. Bernie and I went through flying training together and he was always such a kind person to work with. He was incredibly smart and talented, but wouldn’t brag as he was extremely humble. He will always be remembered and missed.

Bernie was an all-around great guy, who balanced wit, intelligence and humor with authenticity and a sense of loyalty second to none. I kept up with Bernie through my brother and know that he will truly be missed. My heart goes out to his entire family. Be thou at peace, Bernie, with, I hope, a fly rod and guitar always within reach.
