JOSEPH R. WUNDERLICH
Latham- Joseph R. Wunderlich, 87 of Latham, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 9, 2018 in the comfort of his home.
Born in Latham on October 24, 1931, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Anna Mae (Koonman) Wunderlich. Joe was married to Jean B. (Lester) Wunderlich who passed away on July 9, 2009. Joe proudly served during Korean War in the United States Marine Corps.
Joe was the President and Owner of Wunderlich Sand & Gravel in Latham, which he started in 1955. As a boy he worked at Fred Fraleys farm, he then went to work for G.E. and while working there he started his own business with his dump truck and loader, working on nights and weekends. He then started racing stock cars winning several features at Fonda Raceway and was the Stateline Champion. He would later become a sponsor for Kenny Tremont Jr. at Lebanon Valley Speedway. Joe loved the New England Patriots, New York Yankees and NASCAR Racing. He was also an Honorary member of the Latham Fire Department.
Joe is survived by his loving children Leslie Dota, James Wunderlich and Carolyn (Lance) O'Brien as well as his five cherished grandchildren Nicky, John and Sofia Dota and Peyton and Larkyn O'Brien. He is also survived by his brothers John Wunderlich and Eugene (Kathleen) Wunderlich and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his Son Phillip Wunderlich and his siblings Mary, Ann, Jane and George.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday November 16 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham.
Joe's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday November 17 at 10:00 am at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham with Fr. Brian Kelly officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Joe's memory to the St. Ambrose Food Pantry.
Entombment will take place in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
