Obituary of Mary Patricia Parry Pogge

MARY PATRICIA PARRY POGGE Latham - Mary Patricia Parry Pogge, 90 of Latham, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Eddy Village Green in Cohoes. Born in Loudonville, NY on October 7, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John and the late Evelyn (Davison) Henkes. Pat was a lifelong resident of Latham. She married William T. Parry in 1949 in the former St. Pius X chapel in Loudonville. Pat graduated from the Saint Agnes School and Skidmore College. In later years she returned to Saint Agnes as a teacher in the lower school. Her major at Skidmore College was theater which led to the production of many school plays with her young students. After Pat left teaching, she and her brother John L. Henkes formed Long Shadow Inc. which developed family real estate and created many lots for homes off Old Niskayuna Road. She saw the potential for a Town of Colonie Cultural Center in a lovely old former family home. She convinced the Town Supervisor of it's importance to the community and it became later known as the Pruyn House and enjoyed by many people in the town. Pat was a founding member of the "Friends of Pryun House" and it's second President. She was a member of the Garden Study Club of Albany and was a former President there. After her husband William Parry passed away, Pat married Horst Pogge of Loudonville. Pat and Horst shared many years together. More recently Pat was predeceased by Walter Giles of Glenville, a good friend and special companion. Survivors include her loving sons William T. (Jane McKinney) Parry and J. Michael (Laurie Silvano) Parry all of Latham, her grandchildren Erika (Gary) Strait, John Michael Parry, Amanda (Michael) Vooris, great-grandchildren Sofia, Emma, Charles and Theodore. Her brother John L. "Jack" Henkes and cousin Diane Davison. Funeral services will be held Thursday evening November 8, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham with Rev. Steven Smith officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at funeral home. Interment will be Memory Garden's, Colonie on Friday November 9 at 1:00 pm.
