R. MARK POWERS
Latham- R. Mark Powers entered into eternal life after a brief illness on April 15, 2018. Mark was born on October 31, 1931 in Tupper Lake, NY. After graduation from Holy Ghost Academy, he enlisted in U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Pittsburgh, a destroyer escort, during the Korean War.
After he was discharged from the Navy, Mark entered Albany Business College where he met his best friend Bill "Uncle Willie" Wohlleber. They enjoyed many years of friendship, especially during their weekly get together on the golf course or at the coffee shop.
In 1958, Mark began working at Lake Electronics. He was very proud to be employed at Lake as general manager for one day shy of 55 years.
Mark enjoyed golfing, camping at Fish Creek Campground, and annual family vacations to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. One of his favorite trips was going to Ireland, where he kissed the Blarney Stone. Mark had a passion for scouting and was active in Troop 279 in Latham, where he was Scoutmaster for many years. Much of Mark's time was also spent on household projects. He was self-taught and developed many diverse skills, such as carpentry and plumbing. He was never afraid to tackle any project that needed to be completed for his family. He was a communicant and an usher at St. Michael's Church in Cohoes
He is survived by his wife Janet, his sons Joseph (Karen), Robert (Catherine), and Stephen (Cindy), and also his stepsons Scott and Michael (Jillian) Carpentieri. He also survived by his grandchildren, Robert (Amanda), Stephanie, Victoria, Christopher, Daniel, and Patrick Powers, as well as his step grandchildren Cosimo and Antonia Carpentieri.
