Linda and family,
I was so saddened to hear of Dave's passing. I worked for him at Grand Union for a number of years while in college back in the 90's. Dave was one of the greats! I would often see him at Hannaford and he was always quick to tell a story about one of his grandchildren. He was taken much too young. My thoughts are with you all.
Fondly,
Ali Kane

It was heartbreaking to hear that Dave was hospitalized this winter. Many Hannaford associates wanted to reach out and let Dave and his family know how much we cared about him. I know I had to tell myself not to be selfish and intrude - that Dave should have time alone with his family. But I think that anyone who really got to know and/or work with Dave considered him family. He was such an amazing, warm person who sincerely cared about others. He loved his own family and it showed - he would mention his grandkids with a happy grin, or say how proud he was of his children, and light up when telling us that his wife was able to attend holiday parties with him. Then he would remember and chat about details of my family and fellow co-workers' families that just made us feel like we were all connected in a rather wonderful way.
Dave taught me a lot about being a leader. He was an excellent example of one. Even those who disagreed with him had a lot of respect for him. He treated everyone with a level respect that he, himself, deserved. And he was always looking for ways to make things better - the business, the community, and even himself. I was continually impressed by how he was able to keep everything running smoothly, even when surprising or grim events occurred. Dave had a sense of strength and core of calm that kept everything together. He made me and others want to follow him and become like him.
Dave Farrell and Hannaford will forever be synonymous terms for me. I got the chance to see Dave at the Voorheesville store this summer. He looked so happy. He made sure I was doing well and we talked briefly about our families. My heart was full when I left the store - he had that effect on people. Whenever I visit the Albany store, my heart often feels the same way - because that store will always feel like "Dave's store." He poured so much of himself into the work there and he was a fixture there for so long that I cannot help but think of him and how he pushed for the Healthy Living Center, and the kitchen, and the barbecues, and the holiday parties. There was always a plan he was working on that went above and beyond. He often surprised and delighted and exceeded people's expectations.
It is still not quite real to me that I won't run into Dave at a store in the future. We won't get to chat about Cape Cod or the Yankees or what lavash bread is most delicious.
However, I will always have Dave in my heart and mind. I will be a better person for it. I am grateful to have met and worked with such a genuine, intelligent soul. I am glad that I have great memories of such a wonderful person and I will carry these memories with me wherever I go.
Linda, Pete, and Jaime - I am thinking of you especially right now. I am sorry for your loss and I hope you are able to hold on to the best memories. I know you know it, but it bears repeating: he loved you so much!

I had the pleasure of working with Dave on the opening of the Healthy Living Center. I was so lucky to work with him on this ground breaking project. His humor, guidance and passion for people achieving better health was everything on this project. Hannaford couldn't have had a better store manager in place for this project. He advocated and insisted on associate involvement, especially, when it came to access to the Center and he always lead by example. I loved that he committed to taking classes so that other associates would do the same.
I then had the pleasure of working with Dave on two CLYNK openings. The one in Albany in 2016 and again in 2017 when he was in Voorheesville. He took everything in stride and never allowed little things to get him down. Oh and his humor!! I never left a conversation with him without a smile on my face.
I can vividly remember sitting in his office in Voorheesville last fall. He came alive talking about his family and was looking forward to retirement. Dave was always talking about his family and the wonderful trips and gatherings he would have with Linda, his children and grandchildren. He would always ask me about my family. He was the dearest, kindest person.
I am so very sorry for your loss. His memory is a light that will always shine on for me. I am a better person having known him.

I am so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. He was a great guy and awesome store manager peer. I was new to the district 9 team over 3 years ago and Dave made me feel right at home. He was always there for any support and guidance and I would lean into his knowledge frequently. Every coworker I know that has worked with Dave have nothing but great things to say about him. Dave was a natural leader and people just gravitated to him. I will miss his sense of humor and him telling us all to “ settle down” when things got tough. It was a true pleasure knowing Dave and having the opportunity to work with him.
