Sincere condolences to Bob's family. I first met Bob in 1999 when he interviewed me for a position in the Right of Way Office at DOT. He was the first person in the office to provide training to me. Bob was always kind and professional. He was very helpful and went above and beyond. We worked in the same office in Region 1 and later at Main Office. My husband and I were looking forward to spending time with Bob. We are both very saddened at his passing. We send prayers to his family.

Bob and I met at DOT Right of Way School over thirty years ago and despite working in different Regional Offices we maintained a close friendship over the ensuing years. During Bob's last few years at DOT a change in work station brought me working along side Bob in Albany- I feel very fortunate to have had those years with Bob. Bob and I shared similar backgrounds and aspirations and through the years we got to know each others life histories. I deeply appreciated Bob's kindness and sensitivity and considered him among my closets friends. Bob was an intelligent thoughtful professional and supportive friend to me and many others.
I feel very fortunate to have had Bob as a friend for so long. I will miss him dearly.
I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to his loving family in this difficult time.

Bob and I worked together at the DOT for over 30 years. We saw each other every day and became good friends. Over the years we shared many stories about our families, our endeavors and life in general. I greatly admired Bob for his intelligence, his honesty and willingness to help when you needed it. He was a gentle man with an abundance of kindness and consideration for others.
My deepest, heartfelt condolences to his family. I will never forget Bob Hillje and the wonderful person that he was.

My heartfelt condolences to the family. Bob was a good and caring friend, always at the ready to lend a helping hand, and offer a kind word. We shared good times biking, skiing and chatting poolside. He had a heart of gold and will be sorely missed.

Sorry to hear of the passing of my first friend. I'll always remember the days on Brunswick Ave and Bleaker. Baseball, the paper route, sleep overs and hunting and fishing stories with his dad. He will be missed.

My deepest condolences to all Bob's family and friends, such a terribly difficult time after the recent death of Jean. So many of us in Knox Woods knew Bob and enjoyed his friendly encounters. He was always pleasant and affable. We are very saddened at Bob's passing and will miss seeing him out and about the neighborhood. Coincidently, my father, Joseph LaPlante was first cousins with Bob's mother, Jean. We never realized it until we read Jean's obituary. I hope Bob is at peace.

This is heartbreaking. My heartfelt condolences to the Hillje family who I know suffered the loss of Bob's wonderful mother very recently.
Bob was a childhood friend and my best friend when we went to St. Francis de Sales. We enjoyed so much together: hunting, fishing, baseball, hockey and just being boys and being silly.
Bob, you were a great friend, I am so deeply grateful. Rest in peace.
