MARIA BAUMES VANVOLKENBURG Gales Ferry CT- Maria Baumes VanVolkenburg, 50, of Gales Ferry CT, and formerly of Latham, passed away on Saturday September 16, 2017 in Rhode Island. She was born on December 9, 1966 in New Haven Ct., the daughter of Stephen and Rosemary Baumes. She was the wife of Claude Brian VanVolkenburg whom she married on January 13, 1990. The two shared a blessed union of 27 years together. Maria was a 1984 graduate of Shaker High School and then received a BS degree in biology from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a MS degree in microbiology from the University of Florida. She was a research scientist for the Pfizer Corp. in Groton Ct. for over 25 years. In addition to her loving husband and parents, she is survived by her son Matthew VanVolkenburg and daughter Alison VanVolkenburg both of Gales Ferry CT. as well as her two sisters Lisa (Patrick) Vitry of Golden, Colo and Susan (Laura) Baumes of Seekonk, MA. Services took place in Gales Ferry, Ct. Memorial Contributions can be made in Maria's memory to the American Cancer Society, 1 Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110.
