Obituary of Evelyn C. Hart

EVELYN C. "Besta" HART Cohoes- Evelyn C. "Besta" Hart, 95 of Cohoes, beloved mother of Jayne Schmidt, passed away peacefully on Friday July 17 at Albany Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side. Born in New Rochelle, NY on June 24, 1914, she was the daughter of the late John and Carrie E. (Schlutter) Kurleff. She also knew the love of her late stepfather Christian Olsen. She employed by Beneficial Finance Corp. in New Rochelle as a Manager, retiring in 1976 after 35 years of service. Evelyn lived in New Rochelle before relocating to Cohoes in 1986, she was a member of the Danish Sisterhood in Troy, spoke fluent Danish and was proud of her heritage. She also loved to travel especially on cruises, and had a love for animals and supported all the charities that were related to that. At age 7 she posed for a painting for Norman Rockwell, "The Artist Daughter" that appeared on the front cover of the Literary Digest in 1921. Evelyn is survived by her loving daughter: Jayne (Edward) Schmidt of Latham and her cherished grandchildren: Karen McMahon and Paul Schmidt both of Cohoes. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday from 5-7 pm at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Ltd., 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY. A celebration of Evelyn's life will be held at 7:00 immediately following the visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society, Oakwood Ave, Menands NY 12204 Interment will take place in Beechwoods Cemetery, New Rochelle.
