THOMAS PETER SHIELDS SCOTIA - Thomas Peter Shields, 59 of Scotia, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at his home with Joni at his side. Born in Troy, he was the son of Patricia A. (Mulligan) Shields of Latham and the late Harold J. Shields. He was a 1976 graduate of Shaker High School and attended Schenectady County Community College. He was a Material Handler employed by Knolls Atomic Power Lab-Niskayuna for over 20 years retiring in 2001. Tom loved sports especially baseball, golf, football and the Saratoga Race Track. He was an avid fan of the NY Mets and NY Giants Survivors in addition to his mother include his former-wife and love of his life Joan M. Malizia of Scotia, his brothers Jay (Dorothy) Shields of FL, Jack (Jane) Shields of Eastham, MA and Chris (Laura) Shields of Latham, his much loved niece Jennifer Shields of Latham, his aunt, Sally Digney and his dear friends, Tom Lucas, Butch Pricolo and Jack Bittig, Tom is also survived by many cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 29, 2016 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham with Rev. Geoffrey Burke officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 2:00 p.m.to 4:00 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Interment will be with his dad in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to the Animal Protective Foundation 53 Maple Avenue Scotia, NY 12302.
