MARY ANN ASSINI Latham- Mary Ann Assini, 80 of Latham, beloved wife of William C. Assini, entered into eternal life on Monday, December 28, 2015 at St. Peter's Hospital, in Albany with her loving family at her side. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Lena (Paesano) Gabriel. She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, St. Mary's School of Nursing in Amsterdam. Mrs. Assini married her beloved William C. Assini and the two have shared a blessed union of 55 years. Mary Ann was an operating room nurse at Leonard Hospital for several years, then stayed at home to raise her family. While raising her family she was a private duty nurse in the area for several years. Once her family was grown she became the school nurse for the Watervliet City School District for many years until her retirement. Mary Ann enjoyed shopping, puzzles, crosswords, reading and the Saratoga Racino. She loved traveling with her family especially to Rome Italy, Maine and Myrtle Beach. Her greatest enjoyment in life was the time spent cooking for her family and being together. She had a very strong Catholic faith and faced life and illness with much dignity and grace. She was caring, compassionate, generous and an advocate for the poor and those less fortunate. She was also a volunteer at the food pantry at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Albany Survivors in addition to her husband include her loving children Mary Ellen (Robert) Killenbec of Fayetteville, NY, Polly (David) Roddy of Latham and Beth (David) McAvoy of Potomac MD, her cherished grandchildren Daniel Killenbec, William McAvoy, Jane McAvoy and Mary Roddy. She was the dear sister of Guido Gabriel and Frederick (Joan) Gabriel, sister-in-law of James Connors and Joseph Macutek, Charles and Marge Assini. Dear friend of Robert Bouchard and the late Mary Alice Bouchard. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mary Ann was predeceased by her brothers Alfred, Anthony and Joseph Gabriel and sisters Angelina Macutek and Ruth Connors. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 9:00 am in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham with Rev. Geoffrey Burke officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home,149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Due to cemetery regulations on flowers please make donations to Our Lady of the Assumption Memorial Fund 498 Watervliet – Shaker Rd.
