GEORGE L. NUGENT JR. Latham- George L. Nugent Jr., 73 of Latham, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospital, in Albany. Born in Troy on May 15, 1934, he was the son of the late George L. and Mary E. (McCarthy) Nugent Sr. He was raised in Troy and was a 1951 graduate of Catholic Central HS. It was on May 21, 1955 he was joined in marriage to the former Dorothy A. Rush. The two shared a blessed union of 41 years prior to her passing on August 12, 1996. George was employed as a Machine Designer for General Electric in Schenectady, a position he retired from in 1993 after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Colonie Elks #2192, the Latham-Colonie K of C #3394, where he enjoyed playing darts in the Wednesday afternoon dart league. He was Past President of Spring Little League in Troy in the early 70s. George was a cancer survivor of Hodgkins-Lymphoma. He loved playing the game of golf and traveling with his friends. He also was an avid fan of the NY Yankees, Siena Saints basketball and the Super Bowl Champion NY Giants. His special love was his grandchildren enjoying their sports and activities. His survivors include his loving children Michelle (William) A. Nugent-Jameson of Clifton Park, Nancy (Joseph) Lansing of Latham, George (Christine) M. Nugent of St. Charles MO., and Gary (Teresa) J. Nugent of Latham as well as his 8 cherished grandchildren; Casey, Alison, Dana, Kevin, Katelyn and George Nugent and Kristen and David Lansing. His brothers; William (Elizabeth) K. Nugent of Wynantskill and Florida and Rev. Robert A. Nugent of South Glens Falls. George is also survived by his 2 Sisters in law; Virginia (Gerald) Wegner and Connie Rush, his friend C. Sue Finn and several nieces and nephews. Georges family wishes to thank the Albany Associates in Cardiology, especially Dr. David G. Wolinsky for the special care given to him during his illness. Funeral services will be held Thursday February 21 at 9:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham. where Georges Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Geoffrey Burke. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday from 4-7 P.M. at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Ltd., 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Red Cross 33 Everett Rd. Albany, NY 12205 or the O.L.A. Building Fund, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Rd., Latham, NY 12110.
