Obituary of Salvatore Joseph Casano

SALVATORE JOSEPH CASANO

Rexford - Salvatore Joseph Casano, 81 of Rexford, beloved husband of Veronica A. Casano, passed away peacefully on January 7th, 2024 at his home with his wife at his side.

Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Michael R. and the late Rose (Jagamino) Casano. Salvatore was married to his first wife, Marie Napoli, for 18 years and they had two sons, Michael and Steven. Salvatore later married Veronica Zucchi Angelo, who had a son Vincent and a daughter Catherine, and the two cherished a loving and devoted union of 36 years prior to his passing.

When they married, Sal and Veronica set to merging their two families into a Brady Bunch-esque unit. In addition to his own two sons, Sal stepped up to the responsibility of co-parenting Veronica's son and daughter during their teenage/college years and beyond. He was the source of sage advice, corny jokes and much unwavering love.

Professionally, Salvatore delighted in opening the minds of high schoolers to the wonders and excitement of chemistry in the Massapequa Union Free School District where he worked for over thirty years, as well as at Farmingdale State College. After moving to the Capital Region, he enjoyed his work as a Chemistry Instructor at the Albany College of Pharmacy until his retirement. A lifelong learner, Sal earned a license as a Registered Nurse later in life, and did community nursing at his local church. He also enjoyed playing guitar in his church's music ministry.

Sal had a love of cooking and enjoyed sharing his delicious Italian meals with family and friends alike. Always the teacher, he took joy in the creation of dishes with his grandsons, passing his knowledge on to the next generation. He was grounded in the study and practice of Tai Chi and shared his expertise and passion with his family and throughout the Capital Region, including his own Coburg Village Retirement Community.

In addition to his beloved wife, Salvatore is survived by his two sons: Michael and Steven Casano, his two step-children: Vincent Angelo and Catherine Butryn; his sister Maryann Horvath; seven cherished grandchildren and one great grandchild.
