MARY E. "MIMI" UNGER
Loudonville- Mary E. "Mimi" Unger, 95 1/2 of Loudonville, beloved wife of the late Carl W. Unger, passed away peacefully on Friday October 4, 2013 at the Albany Memorial Hospital.
Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Ellen Frances (O'Loughlin) Cronk.
She was a graduate of Troy High School Class of 1936 and the Burroughs Business School in Albany where she received a degree in Comptometry.
Mimi was an Accountant, employed by Montgomery Wards in Menands from 1936 until 1942. She was a Girl Scout leader from 1954 until 1956. She was also a member of the Colonie Seniors and the Kuhn Senior Citizen Center. Mimi was a dance instructor for over 18 years and was a dancer with the Colonie Shakers and Movers and Troy Uncle Sam Sparklers, she also performed on cruise ships while she worked as a cruise tour guide for 19 years. She was the former chaplain for the Niagara Mohawk Retirees Club and was a member of the Pruyn House and was a communicant of St. Pius X Church in Loudonville.
Survivors include her loving children Jo-Ellen Unger of Saratoga Springs and C. Eric Unger of Newbury, NH, her cherished granddaughters, Taryn Noelle Matusik and Darcy Lynn O'Loughlin, her nephew, W. Blake Kirk and niece Carole A. Pepe.
She is predeceased by her sister: Catherine "Kay" M. Kirk.
Mimi danced her way through life, first in her husband's loving arms in the 1940s, at the neighborhood parties in the 1950s, then in line dancing with several senior centers entertaining crowds in festivals and at 80 years of age for the "old people" in nursing homes. Her license plate on her fire engine red Oldsmobile read appropriately "Twnkltos"
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday October 12, 2013 at the Chapel at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville at 10:30 am with Rev. James Walsh officiating.
