MARY B. SHANNON
Colonie- Mary B. Shannon, 89 of Colonie, beloved wife of the late Francis J. Shannon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Ellis Hospital, in Schenectady.
Born in Albany on January 14, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Charlotte (Ward) Bentz.
She was married to Francis J. Shannon and the two shared a blessed union of 48 years prior to his passing in 1995.
Mary was employed with Albany Public Market in Albany as an Office Worker, retiring in 1976 after over 20 years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Colonie Elks #2192 Ladies Auxiliary as well as a member of the Mother's Club at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church and the Colonie Village Seniors. A devout woman, she enjoyed participating in daily masses at St. Claire's Church in Albany and was a long time marcher with the Colonie Irish in several of the Albany St. Patrick's Day parades.
She is survived by her loving children: Donna (James Michael) Martin of Albany, Kenneth (Mittsie Giblin) F. Shannon of Loudonville and Jeanne (Dan) S. Kelleher of Delmar as well as her cherished grandchildren: Stephen (Jennifer) Martin, Anna Martin, Elizabeth (Antone) Lawrence, Daniel Kelleher and Andrew Kelleher and her 3 adored great grandchildren: Trevor and Tanner Martin and Nathaniel Lawrence. She is also survived by her in laws: Audrey Bentz, Lynn Henzel, Thomas (Evelyn) Shannon and Mary Murtaugh.
Mary is predeceased by her siblings: Peter Bentz, Philip, William and James Henzel.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday July 25 from 3:30-6:30 pm at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday July 26, 2013 at 10:00 am at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Mary's name to the Friends of Fontaine, Haiti Scholarship c/o Christ our Light Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville, NY 12211.
Interment will take place in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Albany.
