JOANNE M. SCARINGE

COLONIE - Joanne M. Scaringe, 77, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply, following a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Troy, NY, Joanne grew up in Latham and graduated from Shaker High School, class of 1967. Her passions for faith and community shone brightly through active involvement in the church youth group and choir. Seeking to expand her artistic talents, she moved to Boston, MA, where she attended Mount Ida College. Pursuing her love for the arts, Joanne studied graphic design. She spent several years in the Boston area, working for Cambridge Memories, before returning home to the Capital Region in 1976.

Upon her return, Joanne lent her expertise to the family business, Skyview Star Market. She later served as the Director of the Albany County Republican Committee, a role that would forever change her life, as this is where she met her lifelong partner and husband, George.

Married in 1982, her focus and profound passion turned to family. Joanne dedicated her life to raising her two boys and crafting a home that was a beautiful haven of comfort, warmth, and boundless hospitality. It was in the kitchen where creativity truly shined, using her exceptional cooking to bring family and friends together, making every holiday and gathering unforgettable for everyone who walked through the door.

Joanne was also her children's most devoted supporter and constant presence. She could always be found on the sidelines, proudly supporting her sons' sports teams from their very first youth games all the way through their college athletic careers. That love continued pouring into her grandchildren later in life.

Joanne remained dedicated to her faith and community, serving as a church trustee and a member of the Women's Guild, at St. Peter's Armenian Church.

Her warmth, kindness, and love will shine forever in the hearts of all who knew her, and we will always remember her kind spirit, welcoming heart, witty humor, and natural ability to put anyone at ease. Joanne's legacy will continue in the lives of her husband of 44 years, sons and grandchildren.

Joanne was predeceased by her father, Edward Hartunian as well as her brother and sister-in-law, John and Diane Scaringe. Joanne is survived by her beloved husband, George; her two devoted sons, Michael (Laurie) and Stephen (Alexandra); and her cherished stepson, Christopher (Kimberly). She was the proud grandmother to five grandchildren, Catelyn, Savannah, Michael, Greyson, and Tate; and four step-grandchildren, Forrest (Sydney), Dustin (Olivia), Hope (Matthew), and Tucker (Mary). She also leaves behind her mother, Mary Hartunian; her brother, Edward Hartunian; and her nieces and nephews, DeLynn (Wayne) Wickham, John Scaringe, Greg Hartunian, and Matt Hartunian, along with many dear cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joanne's name to St. Peter's Armenian Apostolic Church or to The Christian Brothers Academy Scaringe Family Scholarship Fund.

Joanne's family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the incredible team at New York Oncology Hematology and the wonderful personal and hospice nurses who provided such gentle care and comfort in her final days.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday evening, July 16th, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. Additional parking will be available at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 129 Old Loudon Rd., Latham.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning, July 17th, 2026, 10:00 AM at St. Peter Armenian Church, 100 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, NY. Interment to immediately follow in the family plot of Memory Gardens Cemetery, Albany.
