CLIFTON PARK - Bruce R Armstrong, of Clifton Park, died on June 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Bruce was born in Troy on January 6, 1957, the third of five children who were raised in Latham by Marvin and Catherine (Large) Armstrong. He married Rita (Van Wickler) Armstrong on September 1, 1990, and spent 36 beautiful years with her. He will live on through his Wife, Rita, his Son, Oliver Armstrong, his Daughter-In-Law, Ashleigh Armstrong, his siblings and in-laws, Gail Colley, Jill (Peter) Briggs, Guy (Eric) Armstrong, Marc (Claire) Armstrong, and many, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

As an avid outdoorsman, Bruce loved spending his time Cycling, Hunting, Fishing, Hiking, Kayaking/Canoeing, Birding, Cross-Country Skiing, and Snowshoeing. He was a skilled woodworker which was a talent he enjoyed employing around his dream house/property on Lake Champlain by building and fixing things himself. He also had an artistic side which he expressed by journaling, writing poetry, drawing, listening to many genres of music, reading, and studying history (both family history and 13th/14th Century Irish/Scottish/English history were his favorites).

Bruce was a serious Cyclist, riding thousands of miles throughout his life. He loved meeting with his regular packmates every summer to complete "century" rides where he would ride over 100 miles at a time. Hunting and Fishing in the Adirondack mountains were also life-long passions of his. He started hunting in the Adirondacks at a young age with his father and other family friends and continued that tradition by passing the love of the outdoors on to his son. Deer camp was a happy place for him. The camaraderie of camping in the woods coupled with the adrenaline of the hunt were some of his most cherished memories. His field journals were full of tales about the thrilling adventures and hijinks he and his friends would get into during these trips. Trout fishing on rivers such as the Battenkill and Mettawee were another of his favorite pastimes. A calmer endeavor for him than hunting, it was still something he took seriously and excelled at. He was skilled at tying his own flies for fly fishing but opted for spin fishing in his later years. Bruce will be remembered as an "Expert Scout and Guide" due to the countless hours spent in the Adirondack mountains with his family and friends.

A proud Irish American man, Bruce was known for the flush in his cheeks, the sarcasm in his humor, and a cold drink in his hand. His trips to Ireland with his wife were some of his favorite memories. He enjoyed the Irish culture, people, and countryside.

While he believed in a work-life balance that favored "life" over "work", he did genuinely enjoy his work for the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation for which he worked for 30 years. A Specialist in the Office for Technology, he was an integral piece of keeping NYS DEC's virtual infrastructure on track. He took pride in what he did and enjoyed assisting coworkers every day.

Bruce fought a long and courageous battle against Glioblastoma. He stood tall in the face of adversity, kept a stiff upper lip, and conducted himself with the highest level of stoicism. He was very strong on his own, but he would want to thank the medical communities of Albany Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, and the Saratoga County Community Hospice. These organizations assisted him to extend his life and allowed him to spend more time with those that he loved.

He was fiercely loyal, wildly independent, deeply introspective, and highly intelligent. He would always do the right thing, and he never told a lie. He loved his family dearly and always put them first. Bruce was the best of us, and he will never be forgotten.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their resepcts and visit with Bruce's family on Thursday, July 2nd, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham.
