Leo Edward Hanrahan III, 54, of Latham, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on June 1, 2026.

Born on May 15, 1972, in Ellenville, New York, Leo was the son of Leo E. Hanrahan Jr. and Luz (Nieves) Hanrahan. A devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Leo's greatest pride and joy was the family he built and loved so deeply.

Leo is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate, Donna (Smith) Hanrahan, with whom he shared nearly 30 years of love, friendship, and adventure, including almost 26 years of marriage. Their story began through a mutual friend when Leo was living in New York and Donna was in California. Taking a leap of faith, Leo moved across the country to be with her, a decision that blossomed into a lifetime of cherished memories and unwavering devotion.

In addition to his wife and parents, Leo is survived by his children, Ben Hanrahan, 23, Sydnee Hanrahan, 21, and Sam Hanrahan, 17, all of whom meant everything to him. He was immensely proud of each of them and treasured every moment spent watching them grow into the remarkable young adults they have become.

Leo is also survived by his parents, Leo and Luz (Nieves) Hanrahan; his siblings, Troy Hanrahan and his wife Jessica, Darren Hanrahan, and Natalie Evans and her husband Walter; as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

For the past ten years, Leo worked for Elevance Health/Carelon, where he was known as a dedicated employee, supportive teammate, and someone who genuinely enjoyed helping others. His kindness, intelligence, and willingness to lend a hand left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.

Leo was a proud and unapologetic geek at heart. He was a passionate fan of the Buffalo Bills and a lifelong lover of all things Star Wars and Star Trek. He enjoyed building with Legos, creating projects with his 3D printer, and immersing himself in strategic computer games. Fascinated by space, science, life's mysteries, and the unexplained, Leo never stopped learning, exploring, and asking questions. His curiosity and enthusiasm were infectious, and he could always be counted on for an interesting conversation, a fun fact, or a spirited debate about the universe and everything in it.

Recently, Leo and Donna had embarked on an exciting new chapter in life. With their youngest son preparing to graduate from high school, they had finally achieved a longtime dream of purchasing a home and beginning a new adventure together. Though that journey will now continue without him physically present, his love, guidance, and spirit will remain with his family every step of the way.

Leo will be remembered for his quick wit, his generous heart, his unwavering love for his family, and his ability to find joy in the things that fascinated him. Above all else, he will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father, and a best friend whose love knew no bounds.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend services at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, on Thursday, June 18th, 2026, from 4:30 to 5:30 PM concluding with the sharing of memories and reflections and celebrating of Leo's life and legacy.
