Carmino N. "Carm" Basile Obituary

With profound sadness we share the passing of Carmino N. Basile, 69, on April 23, 2026. His sudden passing leaves a void in the lives of all who loved him and in the community he served so faithfully.

Carm was born January 31,1957 to Pasquale and Gaetana (Santaniello) Basile in Springfield, Massachusetts. He graduated from Cathedral High School and Worcester State University, earning a degree in Urban Studies.

Carm dedicated much of his professional life to public service, most notably through his leadership at the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA). His work helped shape transportation throughout the Capital Region. He approached every challenge with integrity, vision, and a genuine desire to make life better for the people he served. He retired recently, leaving behind a legacy of progress, collaboration, and care. In addition to his work with CDTA he also served on numerous local and state boards, including the United Way of the Greater Capital Region, Christian Brothers Academy, NYPTA, Capital Region Chamber and the Colonie IDA.

Most importantly, Carm was the quintessential family man. His favorite, most treasured role was at home with his family. For 45 years, he shared a loving marriage with his wife, Sheila, his partner in every sense. He was a proud and devoted father to his sons, Daniel (Merritt) and Stephen (Emily), and the adoring grandfather of Evelyn, who brought him newfound joy. Carm never hesitated to drop everything for family—whether it was pizza night, quiet conversation on the deck, a day at the track or rooting on his Boston sports teams. These were the moments he cherished most.

Carm is survived by his mother, Gaetana Basile; his siblings Diana Izzo, Antonio Basile, Mario Basile (Maddie), and Lisa Nettis (John); and by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Donald Shea, Robert (Maureen) Shea, Mary Lou (Thomas) Crowley, Daniel (Susan) Shea, Philip (Karen) Shea, and Martha (Cornelius) Crowley. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will remember him for his warmth and humor.

Carm's life was defined by service, generosity, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved. He had the special gift of making you feel like you were the most important person in the room. These authentic, positive connections, nurtured over time, will leave a lasting impact on his family, his friends, and the Capital Region.

All are welcome to join Carm's relatives and friends in celebrating his life and legacy. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 29th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville, NY.
