LOUDONVILLE - Charles Francis Flanagan, 89, of Latham, passed away suddenly on March 20, 2026.


Born on October 22, 1936, in Queens, New York, he was the son of the late Charles S. and Eleanor (Weiss) Flanagan. Charles was the beloved husband of the late Carol M. (Schildnecht) Flanagan whom he married on July 8, 1961 and who predeceased him just seven short months ago.


Charles was a graduate of Manhattan College and went on to earn his law degree from New York Law School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and spent time stationed in Utah at Dugway Proving Ground. A man of many passions, he was an avid enthusiast of British sports cars, a lifelong love that ultimately led him to meet his beloved wife, Carol. He was also a member of the Adirondack Triumph Association and Secretary in the Capital Region Jaguar Club.


A devoted student of history, Charles had a deep and abiding passion for the subject, particularly the Revolutionary War, in which he was exceptionally knowledgeable. He was an active historical reenactor with the 23rd Royal Welsh Fusiliers and shared his knowledge with others as a tour guide at Fort Ticonderoga. He was also the first president of the Pruyn House in Colonie, where he was dedicated to preserving and promoting local history.


In addition to his historical pursuits, Charles had a love for music and performed with several local groups, including the Albany Senior Orchestra and the Colonie Town Band.


Above all, Charles cherished his family. His love and devotion to them were unwavering, and he will be eternally missed and forever cherished.


He is survived by his loving children, Daniel (Corine) Flanagan, and Suzanne (Troy) Torrison; his grandchildren, Neala (Jason) Flanagan, Calea (Andy) Balcomb, and Emma Torrison; as well as seven great-grandchildren.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Thursday, March 26, 2026. Calling hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. all at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham. Following the Mass, military honors will be rendered.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
