Gilbert Allen "Gil" Rapp Obituary

GILBERT ALLEN RAPP

Gilbert Allen "Gil" Rapp, 89, of Fort Edward and formerly of Saratoga, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 22, 2025, at the Fort Hudson Nursing Center with his loving family by his side.

Born on March 3, 1936, he was the son of the late John and Patricia (Burnett) Rapp. Gil was a graduate of the Vincentian Institute in Albany and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1958. Following his honorable service, he earned his degree from the University at Albany.

Gil began his professional life in sales before embarking on a more than twenty-year career with the New York State Department of Labor. Beyond his work, he was a man of many passions. He found great joy in canvas painting—particularly in oils—and treasured days spent golfing alongside family and friends. He was an enthusiastic reader, with a unique fondness for the dictionary, and a devoted fan of the New York Mets, New York Football Giants, and horse racing, especially at Saratoga Race Course. Gil loved cooking, cherished family vacations to Cape Cod, and had a lifelong admiration for cars—especially Jaguars. Above all, he was a deeply devoted family man who treasured time spent with those he loved most.

Gil is survived by his three children, Jean Herzog, Michael Rapp and his wife Lisa, and Timothy Rapp. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Rapp. He is also survived by five grandchildren—Megan, Kaylee, and Brooke Herzog, and Alexander and Nikolas Rapp—and by four great-grandchildren: Sam, Millie, Theo, and Cai. He also leaves behind a niece and nephew, Theresa and Scott.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham.
