JOHN J. DOHERTY JR.
LOUDONVILLE - John Joseph Doherty Jr., 79 of Loudonville, beloved husband of Jacquelyn A. (Perreault), passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, October 31, 2025.
Born in Troy, on May 12, 1946, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Marie Elizabeth (Kelly) Doherty. John was a 1968 graduate of Siena College and went on to attend Albany Law School graduating in 1972. Upon graduation from Albany Law, he joined his father's law firm creating the office of Doherty & Doherty in Cohoes. John also served in the US Army Reserves from 1968 to 1974. John worked as an Albany County Public Defender from 1972 until he retired at the age of 70, except for when he served as Cohoes City Court Judge for a few years.
In addition to his 53-year dedicated career of practicing law, John enjoyed jogging, playing basketball on both his high school and college teams, trips to Saratoga Race Track, a good joke, his Irish Heritage, and quality time spent with friends and family. He loved dining out with his wife, Jackie and their family. He will always be remembered for his genuine good spirit in how he lived his life.
In addition to his wife, Jacquelyn (Perreault), John is survived by his loving children and beloved grandchildren: son John (Arianna) Doherty, daughter Mary Elaine (Aaron) Bailenson, grandchildren Elle Ciera, Jack Lucas, and Emilia Marion. Also survived by his former wife Anna Cavanaugh Perry and their children David John Doherty and Alicia Marie (Jeffrey) Boaz and grandchildren Emma, Ryan, and Bradly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, November 11th, 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at The Dufresne and Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 12th, 2025, 11:00 am at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville. Interment and Rite of Committal to follow in the family plot of St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford.
