LATHAM - Arthur H. “K-Mart” Phelan, 71, of Latham, passed away peacefully following a short illness on November 6, 2025. Born on December 22, 1953, in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Arthur H. Phelan Sr. and Loretta (Ganser) Phelan.
A lifelong resident of Latham, Arthur attended St. Ambrose Grammar School and graduated from Shaker High School, Class of 1973. He began his career with the Town of Colonie Water Department, later spending 20 years as a courier with FedEx before finishing his career at LabCorp.
Arthur was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. He was an avid skier and camper, and in the past 13 years especially loved traveling with his wife, Barbara and friends. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends over dinner at his favorite local restaurants. Earlier in life, he was a dedicated member of the Latham Fire Department, where he formed many of his lifelong friendships. A loyal Yankees and Raiders fan, Arthur rarely missed a game.
Arthur is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, with whom he shared 14 wonderful years, including 3 years of marriage. He is also survived by his son Daniel; stepchildren Tim (Jenny) Trombley and Amanda (Dana) Hansen; and his cherished grandchildren Joe, Samantha, and Josh Trombley, and Trey and Madison Hansen. He is also survived by his sister Eileen (Bob) Herman, sister-in-law Pamela Phelan, nephews Bryan (Lindsey) Herman and Christopher Herman, in-laws Avis Parkis and Gene Camarota, brother-in-law Eldred (Debbie) Willis, and many cousins and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Arthur was predeceased by his brother Thomas Phelan and good friends Tom McCormick and Rick “Rogo” Rogozinski. He is also survived by his longtime friends Tom (Debbie) Keis, Tim (Patty) Slattery, and Kevin (Elise) Fronk, Paul (Teresa) Fink.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Colonie Police Department and Colonie EMS for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time. Special appreciation is also given to Jessica Falco of Capital Cardiology, Dr. Lawrence Garbo, and Ellen and Diane Granger of NYOH for their exceptional care and support.
Though Arthur is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His legacy of love, loyalty, and strength will never be forgotten.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham.
