SARATOGA SPRINGS - Kenneth T. Kelly died unexpectedly at 59. Ken’s untimely death is an unbearable loss to the many who loved him, including his husband, many siblings, nieces and nephews, colleagues, and friends, but his sweet, sensitive, thoughtful soul and sharp sense of humor will always be here.
Though Ken and his husband, Timothy A. (Tas) Steiner, had less than a decade together they made the most of their time living together in Saratoga Springs, New York, where they enjoyed patroning the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, and downtown’s many restaurants and shops. To know their furred children, Henry, Harry, Lulu, and Frederick was to know Ken’s compassion and dedication to all living things.
Ken dedicated much of his life to supporting others. He started Rainbow Services in the late 1990s, a groundbreaking employment placement service organization based in Manhattan that helped LGBTQ+, disabled, and underserved individuals get job placements. More recently, he worked at Hospitality House where he assisted clients with developing a clean and sober lifestyle, supporting them with job placements and advocating for them in legal, administrative, and work settings. He went on to work at Unity House based in Troy, New York. Never to sit idly, Ken worked at Price Choppers when he lived down in Newburg, NY living closely to his beloved sister Jody and for over three years at Market 32 here in Saratoga. Ken also supported others in the corporate world. Ken worked as a Senior Recruitment Consultant and Account Manager in Melbourne, Australia for over 16 years, where he won multiple national sales competitions, and earned awards for his achievements, collaboration, and hard work. But no matter where he worked, Ken consistently pushed to enhance and promote unity, diversity, and teamwork within the company or organization.
It is no surprise that Ken brought compassion, energy, and spunk to every job and into every relationship. Ken grew up in the heart of New York City with seven siblings. He learned to fight for everything he needed and believed in, but also understood how hard and complicated life could be for so many. He battled to protect the underserved and brought compassion, sensitivity, and humor to all that he encountered.
Ken will be sorely missed by his husband, his husband’s family, his siblings, and his many nieces and nephews.
A private memorial for Ken will be held this Sunday, October 19th, from 10:30am to 1:00pm at the Saratoga Golf & Polo Club. For family, friends, and colleagues of Ken’s wishing to attend, please contact Ken’s husband, Tas, to RSVP.
