Madalyn A. (Halaska) Lemire Obituary

LATHAM - Madalyn A. (Halaska) Lemire, 98 of Latham, beloved wife of the late Raymond O. Lemire, passed away on Monday, October 6th, 2025 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland.


Born February 8th, 1927 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Madalyn was the daughter of the late John and Hildegard (Newburg) Halaska. Madalyn married Raymond O. Lemire on June 16th, 1947.


Madalyn was a homemaker at heart who took deep pride in her home and her cherished role of mother. During her lifetime, Madalyn was involved with her community through several organizations, such as the Military Council of Catholic Women and St. Ambrose Funeral Choir. She also spent time in Nurnberg, Germany as a religious education teacher and coordinator for military dependents as well as dedicating her time and efforts to coordinating religious education in Erlangen, Germany.


In addition to her late parents and husband, Madalyn is predeceased by her son, Michael J. Lemire and daughter-in-law Patricia Lemire; several sisters and brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from both the Lemire and Halaska families. Madalyn is survived by her brother, William "Bucky" (Katie) Halaska, of LaCrosse, WI, and seven children: Mary (Richard) Ferraro of Beaverton, OR, Raymond Lemire of Latham, NY, Jeanne Lemire of Germany, John (Debbie) Lemire of Raleigh, NC, Madelyn (Patrick) Duffy, of Baldwinsville, NY, James (Dawn) Lemire of Defreestville, NY, and Richard (Liz) Lemire of Albany, NY, in addition to twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, October 13th, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, 10:30 AM at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. Interment at Saratoga National Cemetery beside her late husband to immediately follow the mass.


The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center and their Guadalupe Unit, where Madalyn spent her final years.


In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions be made to Our Lady of Mercy Resident Fund, 2 Mercy Care Lane, Guilderland, NY 12084 with the memo: In Memory of Madalyn Lemire, Guadalupe Unit; and to the Alzheimer's Disease Association of Northeastern NY, 1003 New Loudon Road, Cohoes, NY, 12047 with the memo: In Memory of Madalyn Lemire.
