JOHN CHRISTOPHER MOTTA

LATHAM - John Christopher Motta, 28, of Latham, NY, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of September 5, 2025. Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, he was the beloved son of Christopher John Motta and Laura Lammers.

John is survived by his father, Christopher Motta; his mother, Laura Lammers; his stepmother, Anna McFarland; his brother, Joseph Motta; his stepbrother, Brian McFarland; and his stepsister, Giavanna McFarland. He is also remembered with love by many aunts, cousins, and friends whose lives he touched deeply. John was predeceased by his grandfather, John Thomas Motta; grandmother, Anne Motta; and uncle, John Rosario Motta.

A graduate of SUNY Ulster, John earned his associate’s degree in psychology with honors and received several academic awards. He was deeply fascinated by psychology, the human mind, and pharmacology, and he carried an enduring passion for knowledge and discovery.

Beyond his studies, John was an avid reader and a gifted writer who dreamed of becoming an esteemed author. He filled notebooks with short stories, showcasing a talent and imagination that inspired those around him. He also had an extraordinary sense of humor and was a devoted fan of comedy, often attending open mic nights to perform stand-up himself. His wit, warmth, and ability to make others laugh will be remembered forever.

John’s life, though far too short, was filled with creativity, curiosity, and love. His family and friends will carry forward his memory with the same humor, compassion, and dedication to learning that defined him.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with John’s family on Saturday, September 13th, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham, NY. A brief service will conclude the services at 4:00 PM.
