MARINA A. AUSTIN


Latham - Marina A. Austin, 89, of Latham, beloved wife of the late William J. Austin, passed away peacefully on August 5th, 2025 in the comfort of her home surrounded by the love of her family.


Born in Troy on May 30, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Constantine and Anna (Dobler) Doukas. Marina was married to William J. Austin on November 5, 1955 and the two shared a devoted union of 55 years prior to his passing in 2011.


Marina was employed with the NYS Department of Education in Albany as a Teacher Certification Clerk, retiring in 2002 after 16 years of service. Prior to working for New York State, she worked as a clerk for Socony Mobil Oil Company. After joining the S.W. Pitts Ladies Auxiliary in 1952 at the age of 16, Marina went on to be the longest serving member of 73 years, holding many offices within the Auxiliary including the office of President. Marina was a member of the Latham Senior Bowling League where she bowled Tuesdays and Thursdays for many years. She was formerly in the Chorus and Rosary Society at the original St. Ambrose Church, she was active in the PTA when her children were young, and she was a volunteer at Albany Medical Center as a Nurse's Aide. Marina was a member of the Colonie Senior Citizens and in her spare time, she loved to travel, was an avid reader, and enjoyed bingo.


Marina is survived by her loving sons: Lawrence Austin of Latham, Joseph (Olga) Austin of Watervliet, Timothy (Karen) Austin of Loudonville and Michael (Isela) Austin of Odessa, Texas. She is also survived by her seven cherished grandchildren: Christopher, Cynthia, Andrew (Ashley), Brendan, Madison, Carter and Cody, her great-granddaughter Marina Rose, her step-granddaughter Tatiana Salazar, as well as her in-laws: Monica Doukas and Richard (Elizabeth) Austin.


She is pre-deceased by her siblings: Constantine "Duke" Doukas, Annamary Doukas, and her brother-in-law Paul Austin.


Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday, August 8th, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. Marina's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 9th, 2025, 10:30 AM at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham with Reverend Kyle Gorenski as celebrant. Interment will take place next to her husband in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet.


The family would like to thank Dr. Sukumaran and the staff at NYOH, as well as the staff at Trinity Health Hospice, for their extraordinary care, dedication, and professionalism.
