ALLEN E. HICKS

ALBANY - Allen "Al" Edward Hicks, 70, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 in Niskayuna, NY.

He was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on March 29, 1955, to the late Allen Ralph Hicks and Barbara (Seaboldt) Hicks. Mr. Hicks was a graduate of Arlington High School in Poughkeepsie, NY. On July 1, 1973 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Construction Equipment Operator within the Navy Construction Battalion ("Seabees"). He was honorably discharged from active duty on December 25, 1974.

After discharge from his service in the Navy, Mr. Hicks obtained employment at Racal-Milgo as an Information Technology (IT) Technician in Irvine, California and Miami, Florida which was the start of what would be a 50-year IT career during which he developed extensive expertise in Network Communications. He subsequently held Network Communications roles with the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) in Syracuse, NY; Nortel Networks in Raleigh, NC; Annese & Associates in Albany, NY; and General Electric facilities in Schenectady, NY and Niskayuna, NY. Mr. Hicks was most recently employed by Cincinnati Bell Technology Solutions, Inc. (CBTS) as a Network Engineer supporting General Electric's Aerospace Research Center. He was regarded as a dedicated professional and Network Communications expert who was well-respected for his ability to solve difficult IT communications problems in high stress situations.

Mr. Hicks was a quiet and respectful man who loved his family and appreciated his friendships. He loved spending time at the ocean and particularly enjoyed spending summer vacations on Cape Cod with his family. Mr. Hicks was a big fan and collector of rock music, played guitar, and while growing-up in Poughkeepsie, NY played guitar for a local rock band. He enjoyed listening to rock music with his friends and family and was well-versed in the history of various rock bands. Mr. Hicks was an avid baseball and football fan and was devoted to his New York Yankees and New York Football Giants.

Mr. Hicks is survived by his sister Donna Dunham and brother-in-law Mark Dunham of Rancho Santa Fe, CA. He was predeceased by his brother Nelson Eugene Hicks of Hyde Park, NY.

Visitation will take place on Monday, April 28, 2025 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY. Interment with military honors will follow, taking place at 12:00 PM at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery located at 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.
