Jayne J. Gibson Obituary

JAYNE J. GIBSON

LATHAM - Jayne J. Gibson, 81 of Schenectady and formerly Latham, passed away Friday, February 28th, 2025 at Ellis Hospital, in Schenectady.

Born in Troy, NY, she was the daughter of the late Henry L. and Genevieve (Conn) Johnson. Jayne attended and graduated from Lansingburgh schools. Upon graduating high school, Jayne went to work as a clerk for the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance in Albany. During this time, she also served as a shop steward, advocating for and representing her coworkers. She dedicated over thirty-five years to her career with the state all while raising and caring for her family. When the time came and the opportunity arose for her to spend more time with her grandchildren, she happily retired from the state in 1995.

Jayne enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She was well beyond her years in the current trends when it came to crafting. She had a fondness for everything purple to the extent of eventually becoming known as "Jayne the Purple Lady" to her friends. Her family was her deepest source of joy. Jayne will be fondly remembered as a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Survivors include her three children Lawrence Garmley, Darlene (Peter) Bolognino and Pam (Phil) Barrett as well as her grandchildren Larry (Amanda) Garmley, Jenn (Matt) Avilez, Tori Jayne Roggen, Steven (Courtney) Black, Genny Barrett, Nicholas Black, Jacob Barrett and Kimmy (Derek) Rivers. Also survived by her son-in-law Bruce Black.

In addition to her late parents, Jayne is predeceased by her son David Garmley, grandson Matthew Garmley and brother James Henning.

Jayne's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of both Ellis Hospital and the Heritage Home for Women in Schenectady for the compassionate care they gave their Mom. We are forever grateful.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday, March 9th, 2025 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. A prayer service will begin at 4:30 pm with The Rev. D. Lowell Chilton officiating.
