LATHAM - Susanne Kenny Burke of Latham and Babcock Lake passed away suddenly on January 31, 2025. Born on May 13, 1959 in Troy, NY, she was the youngest daughter of the late Martin Kenny and Mary Teresa Johnson Kenny.
Susanne was a proud 1977 graduate of Shaker High School. Upon graduating, she attended Maria College receiving an Associate's Degree and began working as a Medical Office Assistant in the Nephrology Department at Albany Medical College. After the birth of her first child, she returned to Maria College to pursue a degree as a Registered Nurse, graduating in May of 1991 a week before the birth of her second child. Susanne worked as a Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery at Albany Medical Center for 15 Years and then at the office of W Bruce Clark, OBGYN in Latham for 15 additional years before retiring in 2021. Her kind, compassionate nature made her well suited to her profession, which called for her to care for women and families during the happiest and most challenging moments of their lives.
Susanne was a fabulous cook who loved to entertain her family and friends at her home in Latham, especially her dear friends from the Eastview Estates Golf League and her Grimm/Johnson relatives each Thanksgiving. She enjoyed many wonderful summers by the ocean at Cape Cod with her parents and the Kenny family. She also loved her time spent with many great friends in the Babcock Lake community. Susanne was a passionate lifelong Yankee fan and enjoyed watching the Barefoot Contessa. She will be remembered for her humor and warm hospitality.
She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years Robert Burke, Sr.; her children Molly (James) Sinon of Emerson, New Jersey, Erin (John) Canfield of Green Island, Colin (Lauren) Burke of Hoboken, New Jersey and Robert Burke, Jr. of Saratoga Springs; and her 2 grandchildren: Liam and Amelia Sinon. She was a devoted mother and a proud grandmother.
She is also survived by her siblings: Pat (Bill) Jakabak of Coventry, Rhode Island, Mary Lou (Dr. Dennis) O'Connor of Hammondsport, Martin (Kathryn) Kenny of Ontario, New York and Michael (Paula) Kenny of Cohoes; and her in-laws: Ellen (Jim) Durand of Lakeland, Florida, Margaret (Dave) Manny of Queensbury, Nancy (Frank) Cupolo of Ballston Spa, Cathy (Bob) McKenna of Saratoga Springs, the late Carol Burke, Gail Burke of Clifton Park, Thomas Burke of Latham and the Honorable George (Julie) Burke of North Greenbush. Susanne was a much beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday February 5th, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet Shaker Rd, Latham. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday February 6th 2025 10:00 AM at Our Lady the Assumption, Reverend Geoffrey Burke, celebrant. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Susanne's name to the Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12110 or Babcock Lake Estates, Inc., 33 North Shore Road, Petersburgh, NY 12138.
