Obituary of John H. Augstell
JOHN H. AUGSTELL
LOUDONVILLE - John H. Augstell, 90 of Loudonville, beloved husband of Sherril J. (Miller) Augstell, passed away on Saturday, January 25th, 2025 at the Eddy Village Green, in Cohoes surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late Harold and Genevieve (Leary) Augstell. John graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and received a master's degree from Union College. John was a devout Catholic and active parishioner of St. Pius X Church in Loudonville.
John initially worked at United Aircraft in Connecticut for a few years. He then went on to work at Knolls Atomic Power Lab in Niskayuna for over 40 years. He enjoyed working at Knolls and especially liked the people he worked with. He often played golf with his friends from work. John also loved Lake George. He spent his time up there piloting the Ski Nautique for his son Mike's waterskiing, often taking a ride afterwards in the early morning. Friday evenings during the summer with his family were his favorite, having pizza from the Harvest and sipping his Manhattans. He also cherished trips to Cape Cod with his family as well as vacations to Florida with Sherril and his cousins, John and Joyce. John was an avid New York Yankees and RPI hockey fan. He took great pride in working in his flower garden at home where he tended to numerous roses and daylilies. He rarely missed his grandchildren's basketball and soccer games or Mike's soccer games during the summer and winter months.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, Sherril, John is survived by his four children, Susan (Doug) Dier, Robert (Marianne), Stephen (Cori) and Michael, five grandchildren, Gregory (Jennifer), Matthew (Sydney), Ryann, Andrew and William, and one great grandchild, Beatrice. His relatives and friends were a big part of his life and he loved them all.
In addition to his parents, John is predeceased by his cherished brother James Augstell.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes for the unbelievable care and kindness provided to John.
