I remember Mr.Wood when i was young my family and would gather around the tv to watch the news and my dad would say( be quite Dick Wood is on be quite) . He would tell the news like it was,not like some of these reporters of today.I will keep the entire Woodfamily in my prayers along with his friends and co-workers, GOD BLESS YOU MR.WOOD, enjoy your journey home with our LORD.

Dear Kristin,
I am so sorry to hear about Dick! I grew up with you and Dick, and some of my favorite Thanksgiving memories were spent with you!!! Both of you are always in my heart and I sincerely consider you family!!! If you need anything, I am just a phone call or email away (you probably know this, but just in case, I live on the East Coast now). Hugging you and take care.
Love,
Dawn Rowan

Dear Family,
My condolences to all of you. Dick was one of the many Capital District journalists I grew up with who inspired me to love broadcasting and communications from a very young age. That interest first led me to a job in radio in Gloversville while I was just a young teenager and eventually to three university degrees in communications and today, an over three decade long career as a college and university educator teaching speech and mass communication. I could not have done any of this without journalists like Dick modeling professionalism, talent and superior ethics to me while I was young. I am forever grateful for his life and his work. Thank you so much for sharing him with us. God bless all of you.

I remember watching Dick Wood on the news as a child, and there was just something about the way he told a story that kept your attention. You could tell he was a true gentleman.

When I was a child, my best friend invited me to camp with her family. While there we visited her father’s dear friend for dinner at his nearby home/camp, to my surprise it was Dick Wood. I recognized him as the man my mom watched on the news daily. I remember him being so welcoming & friendly. We kids secretly went in the lake, despite having been told not to, and some of us got covered in leaches. We all ran back to the camp frantically, expecting to be scolded…instead Dick was so calm & helpful, later laughing & joking about the ordeal with that big voice of his. I was in awe of how he completely deescalated the situation & the patience he showed. When I returned home and told my mom of my experience, she acted as if I’d met a celebrity and had so many questions. It was likely a mere moment in time to him and I was just another kid, but for me…I have never forgotten that weekend and the impression that the humble & kind man on the television had made on me. RIP Mr. Wood. Thank you for setting a great example of humanity. My sincere condolences to his wife, family & friends.

A memory: When I was a teen, I volunteered with handicapped children. There was a autistic boy who loved Dick. We had to get him home in time to watch the news each evening. He could recite all of Dicks stats and all about his life. For his birthday one year, and a few others, Dick attended his party. This stayed with me all these years, I'm now 60. Rest in peace for a life well lived.

Dick Wood was a resounding presence I in our living room as I grew up, our entire family enjoyed hearing his voice and humor daily. I will never forget meeting him at my job at McDonald's. He was just the same in person and a genuine nice guy. He will be sorely missed. From a fellow Latham resident. Norine Cunningham
