MARGARET MARY LANSING
LATHAM - Margaret Mary Lansing (McGeough), 85 of Latham, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 20, 2021. In her final days, she celebrated her 85th birthday in the home that she loved and where she lived for nearly 60 years, surrounded by her three loving children and family members.
Born in Albany, she was the daughter of Joseph and Antoinette (Geiss) McGeough. Marge grew up on Morton Avenue, directly across from Lincoln Park, where she spent many days swimming in the summer and sledding in the winter. Every Saturday, she would use her 25-cent weekly allowance to buy a 12-cent movie ticket and 13-cents worth of candy. According to family lore, an unnamed uncle allegedly used the Morton Avenue house to stash profits from a numbers-running operation in the 1930s.
As a teenager, Marge dreamed of becoming a driver in the newly-formed Formula 1 race circuit. But life took her in a different direction. She graduated from Cathedral Academy in 1954. At age 19 in September 1955, she married Ron Lansing, 24, a Korean War veteran. They shared a bond that would last for over 65 years. Their three children were born in 1958, 1960, and 1962.
Marge worked for 38 years as a tax accountant for several public accounting firms in the Capital Region and in New Jersey. While working full-time and raising three children, she took night classes at Siena College, eventually earning her degree of Bachelor of Business Administration, Cum Laude, at the age of 49. Her family was so proud of her.
Marge was a skilled seamstress who made award-winning Halloween costumes for her young children. These priceless treasures were passed down to her grandchildren. She was an expert at canning and interior decorating. She was a Cub Scout den mother for Pack 162. Active in community, she served as Treasurer for the Friends of Pruyn House to help preserve the Colonie landmark. A master gardener who could name any local plant or flower, Marge served for many years in the roles of President, Treasurer, and Secretary for the Blue Creek Garden Club.
Survivors include her three loving children Kevin (Sonja Myhre), Michael (Elizabeth), Jacqueline (Jeffrey Crannell), her eight grandchildren, Michael Jr., Ryan, Rachael, Joshua, Julia, Krister, Scout, and Karsten, and her four great grandchildren Jack, Mia, Piper, and Michael III. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald Lansing, her older brother Joseph McGeough, and her older sister Helen Rider (McGeough).
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 2-4pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Pruyn House or the Blue Creek Garden Club.
