DANIEL "MEL" LAYTON JR. Latham-Daniel "Mel" Layton Jr., known to many as Mel, passed away suddenly on June 7, 2021. Son to the late Daniel M. and Midred (Knight) Layton, he was born and raised in Middletown NJ, moving to Latham, NY in 1988. He attended Middletown Township High School and attend Waynesburg College and Monmouth College. After 38 years with the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board, he retired in August 2012, leaving as District Manager of their Albany, NY office. In addition, he served several years behind the Deli counter at the Hannaford in Latham. Dan loved movies and music, having a large collection of both. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing at open mic nights around the area. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Kristine (Kushwara) Layton. He is also survived by his son, Christopher (Lori), his daughter, Jessica, his brother David (Mary) and nephew, Kevin (Omarda). Lastly, but certainly not least, he is survived by the loves of his life, his five grandchildren, Kayla, Shaun Jr., Alexander, Zoey, and Eleanor and his great granddaughter, Skylar. "Grandpa will always be with you." Relatives and friends are invited and may call Friday June 11, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home 149 Old Loudon Road Latham, NY .
