He enjoyed fly fishing at every opportunity and loved music and playing the guitar and piano. He enjoyed meeting new people and generously gave of his time to help others. A practicing Catholic, Bernie enjoyed community involvement and actively participated in the Yorktown Council Knights of Columbus. His grandfather, Alexander Mashuta, who served in the Coast Guard in World War II, inspired Bernie to serve his country.
