JAMES W. DARBYSHIRE Latham - James W. Darbyshire, 62 of Latham, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at his home with his cherished family at his side. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late James R. and Alice Elizabeth (Pike) Darbyshire. Jim was a graduate of Shaker High School class of 1964 and graduated with his B.S. in Education from SUNY Albany in 1968 and his Masters degree in education in 1970. He was a Teacher, employed by Saratoga Springs High School from 1968 until his retirement in 2001 with 32 years of service. Jim was a 39 year member and Old Timer of the S.W. Pitts Hose Company in Latham, he served as Chief from 1978 until 1979 and was former Vice President of the Department. He was an Albany County Legislator serving from 1979 until 2000. He was the former director of the Heritage Park in Colonie from 2000 until 2003. Jim was dedicated to his family and to the people of Colonie and Albany County, he took great pride in serving the public. Survivors include his loving children Kristen (James Condon) Darbyshire of Niskayuna, Diane M. (Scott Slater) Darbyshire of Albany, and Brian J. Darbyshire of Loudonville, his brother: Robert John (Shirley) Darbyshire of Latham, cherished granddaughter, Maen Eri Condon and his former wife and dear friend Susan Darbyshire of Latham. he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham with Rev. John Tallman officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Donations to the Center for Disability Services 314 South Manning Boulevard Albany, NY 12208 in memory of Jim would be appreciated.
