CHARLES J. BIONDO SR. Latham- Charles J. Biondo Sr., 89 of Latham, beloved husband of the late Anna (Nania) Biondo, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, January 23, 2008. Born in Albany on March 3, 1918, he was the son of the late Nunzio and Tommasina (Fricano) Biondo. He proudly served during World War II in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. Charles was employed in the Gas Turbine Dept. of General Electric in Schenectady for 32 years, he retired in 1974. He was an active member and past treasurer of the Catholic War Veterans Pat Aiezza Post in Albany, served on his class reunion committee for the Albany High School Class of 1935 until the committee disbanded in 2005, enjoyed extensive worldwide travel and Caribbean cruises with his wife of almost 64 years prior to her passing in 2002, he also volunteered for many years at the Resurrection Nursing Home in Castleton, he was an avid fan of the NY Yankees, and for the past several years has made yearly trips to Yankee Stadium with his close family members. Charles was also a very dedicated family man who enjoyed frequent gatherings with his family and friends. His survivors include his loving children: Nancy Lawlor of Castleton, Charles (Donna) J. Biondo Jr. of Summerfield, FL., and Catherine M. Smith of Latham. His cherished grandchildren: Eugene (Sandra) Lawlor of Schodack Landing, Ann Marie (Richard) McIntosh of Watervliet, and Debora (Stephen Hubbs) Biondo of Groton Ct. He cherished in his heart the memory of his grandson Charles Lawlor who preceded him in death. He is also survived by his loving great grandchildren, Andrea (Andrew) Piroli, Lisa Lawlor, Michael Lawlor, Jessica McIntosh, and Anthony McIntosh as well as a Great Great Grandson Andrew Piroli. He is also survived by his sister Adrienne Bianchiano of Calif., and his brother Frank Bionde of Hawaii, and many nieces and nephews. Charles is predeceased by his brothers, Andrew, Joseph, Salvatore, and Anthony Biondo. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday January 26 at 9:00 am at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham where Charles Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Francis Dubois Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday from 4-7 P.M. at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Ltd., 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY. Instead of Flowers the family requests that donations be made to Charles favorite charity: St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
