MARY T. KEIFER Latham- Mary Theresa Keifer, 81 of Latham, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Community Hospice of Albany at Memorial Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Born on June 1, 1926 in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Harry Francis & Theresa Magdelene (Poirier) Germain. Mary was a graduate of the Academy of the Holy Names and was one of the first female graduates of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1952. She was employed by the NYS Dept. of Health, and later worked for the G.E. Research & Development Center in Niskayuna as a lab technician. It was at G.E that she met her future husband Lloyd, who was also a lab technician. Mary & Lloyd would have celebrated their 50th golden wedding anniversary on May 10, 2008. Her many interests included travel, cooking, sewing, using her computer, gardening and genealogical research of both sides of the family. She was an excellent pianist and was classically trained. She also had the added distinction of performing a piano recital at her high school graduation. When Lloyd retired in 1987, they traveled to Russia, Bavaria, Alaska & Hawaii along with extensive travel in their motor home throughout the US. Her survivors include her beloved husband Lloyd J. Keifer Sr., and her loving children and grandchildren; son: Lloyd (Linda) Keifer Jr. of Clifton Park & step grandchildren Jonathan & Jeffrey Reed of NJ; daughter: Carolyn Marie (Michael) Filson & grandsons Brian Alexander & Brendan Adam Filson of Glenmont; son: John Allen (Nicole) Keifer & grandsons Alexander John & Benjamin Joseph Keifer of Niskayuna; and daughter: Virginia Anne (John) Marcellus and grandson Michael James Marcellus of Albany. She is also survived by her brothers-in law; Alvin Clinton Keifer of Porters Corners, NY & Wesley Earl Keifer of Prince George, Va. as well as several nieces and nephews. Mary cherished in the heart the memory of her grandson Joseph Edward Marcellus who passed away in 2002. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 9 at 11:00 am at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham, where Marys Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Fr. Francis Dubois. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd. Latham Memorial contributions can be made in Marys memory to the American Diabetes Assoc. 7 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205 Interment will take place in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
