THOMAS G. GILCOYNE Latham- Thomas G. Gilcoyne, 91 of Latham, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Schuyler Ridge Health Care, in Clifton Park, with his loving wife by his side. Born in Troy NY on May 17, 1916, he was the son of the late Thomas G. and Katharine (McVadie) Gilcoyne. He was raised and educated in Troy graduating from Troy High in 1933 and R.P.I. where he excelled in Football & Basketball and was a member of the Phalanx & Theta Xi fraternities. He received his bachelors degree in 1937. It was on July 28, 1970 that he married the former Frances E. DeSorento. The two shared a bless union of love & devotion for over 37 years. Tom proudly served in the US Navy as a Lieutenant from 42-45 during World War II. Tom was a member of the Board of Directors for the American Society Machinery and Manufactures Assn. and the American Hardware Manuf. Assn. as well as the National Automotive Council & National Hardware Council. He was also the Historian & Librarian and member of the Collections & Historic Review Committees for the National Museum of Racing & Hall of Fame in Saratoga. Tom was also President for Duffers International, Country Club of Troy, Troy Club, a member of the Lancaster Country Club, Detroit Golf Club & Detroit Athletic Club & Board of Directors of Hardware Golf Assn. He was employed at one time as the President of Scolite International Corp in Troy, Sales Manager of Consumer Products for Columbus McKinnon Corp in Tonawanda, NY, General Manager for Nor-Cal Insulation Co. in San Jose, Calif., and National General Sales Manager for the Coated Abrasives Division for the Norton Co. in Watervliet. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife Frances; include his sister: Katharine Gilcoyne of Forest Hills, NY, and his brothers & sisters in law: Ned (Cindy) DeSorrento of Clifton Park, Otto DeSorrento of Waterford and Mary Jablonski of Cohoes. He is also survived by his faithful canine yorkie: Gucci. Tom is predeceased by is brother & sisters in law: Anthony (Emily) DeSorrento, Nancy DeSorrento & Dorothy DeLuca. Funeral Services will be held on Monday January 7 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, where Toms Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Geoffrey Burke. Relatives and friends are invited to call Sunday January 6, from 2-6 PM. At the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd. Latham Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
